If your tooth has been loosened or knocked out of the socket you need to contact a dentist as soon as possible. If the tooth is out of the socket, take care handling the tooth, and only handle it by the crown, not the root. If you are unsure about placing the tooth back, place the tooth in milk. Do not store the tooth in water. There are times when a tooth can be re-implanted and saved if done so promptly. Teeth that are reinserted into their socket within twenty minutes have the best chance of surviving. Cold packs can be helping in reducing any pain and swelling.

If you play sports, you are more likely to sustain damage to the teeth when you are not wearing a protective mouthguard The cost of the injuries sustained without a mouthguard may be more than the cost of having a professional mouthguard made.
